Training for the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage

Back in 2017, my husband went to Spain for 11 days with a couple of friends to hike the Camino de Santiago. He wants to do it again and I want to go with him. So we discussed an idea that I will start training now to go to Spain in 2026. That gives me a little over a year to accomplish what, for him, took only about 6 months to prepare for. I feel I’ve given myself plenty of time to slowly ramp up my endurance, getting my nervous system accustomed to the difference in movement and activity level. I’m starting from a mostly sedentary work-from-home lifestyle, and am living with fibromyalgia, so I expect this to be some work.

We will be taking the Camino Francis (the dark blue line on the map) from the west side of the mountains to Santiago de Compostela sometime in 2026.

This will be a log of my hiking adventures, research on tips, tricks, and assistive tools to help me prepare for and succeed in hiking 100KM across Spain next year.
